A Los Angeles drug dealer has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for supplying the ketamine that killed actor Matthew Perry, according to BBC News.

Jasveen Sangha was convicted of selling the drugs to Perry, who died from an overdose in October 2023 at his Pacific Palisades home. Prosecutors referred to Sangha as the "Ketamine Queen" during the trial, describing her as a supplier who targeted wealthy clients in the entertainment industry.

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, had been open about his decades-long struggle with addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs. He chronicled his battle in his 2022 memoir and had become an advocate for addiction recovery.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about ketamine's growing recreational use despite its legitimate medical applications for depression treatment. Federal authorities have increasingly focused on prosecuting dealers whose products cause fatal overdoses, treating such cases as homicides rather than simple drug transactions.

Sangha's 15-year sentence reflects a broader prosecutorial strategy: holding suppliers criminally accountable for overdose deaths. This approach has gained traction as celebrity overdoses — from Prince to Mac Miller — have drawn attention to the networks that supply prescription and illicit drugs to high-profile clients.

Perry's death at 54 marked a tragic end to a life defined by both extraordinary professional success and personal struggle. His candor about addiction had made him a prominent voice in recovery circles, even as he continued to fight his own demons.

The sentencing sends a clear message about accountability in the drug supply chain, particularly for dealers who exploit vulnerable individuals battling addiction.
